My First 5K

I forgot to update everyone on my first 5K race. Our whole family ran a race in April - The Sprint for Cancer. Jim ran with Jenna who participated in the Spring Girls on the Run program. Julia, Julia's friend, and Jayne ran together and I ran with Jessica. We were off to a fantastic start and kept up a good pace. We only had about a mile and a half to go and Jessica broke out in a horrible rash all over. She was crying and wanted me to carry her the rest of the way. There was no way that was going to happen! Then she sat on the curb and told me "Go on mom, you can come back to get me when you finish the race." Yeah, like that was going to happen in downtown Atlanta!! After almost 20 minutes of this, I told her we could walk the rest of the way. We did and she scratched the whole way back. My poor little baby!!! We crossed the finish line in barely less than an hour. Yea!!! We did it!!!! She told me no more races for her! They were just to itchy! LOL! Our finishing time wasn't the best, but at least we weren't the last to finish. :-)

The Lazy Days of Summer

The perks of being a teacher - Summer Break! Do you remember when summer lasted forever - June, July, and August? I was so ready to go back to school as a kid when summer was over. Now we have to go back just when summer is getting started. Yes I am already counting down the days that we have to go back to school - I go back on August 3rd and the kids come on August 7th! The first week in August!!! Now did I say that we have some awesome breaks during the school year? A week off for Thanksgiving, 2 1/2 weeks for Christmas, 1 week off in February - Winter Break, and 1 week off in April - Spring Break. And, a few days here and there for Labor Day, MLK day, etc...

So far I've tried to make it a memorable summer for my girls. We went to Rosemary Beach, Fl. last week. Julia will be going to church camp next week. We are going berry picking next week. Then, Six Flags in a couple of weeks. The Georgia Aquarium next week (season passes!) - thanks grandparents!! Swimming, Tennis Camp....Whew, I'm worn out already. I guess I need a summer of doing absolutely nothing in order to be ready to go back to school when summer is just getting started! Hence, "The Lazy Days of Summer." I'm sure you all feel my pain - especially my friends that don't get the perk of having summers off - even if the powers that be have shortened the summers.

Proud Momma!

#1 daughter and #2 daughter and Daddy-O ran a 5k this past weekend in Atlanta. #2 daughter participated in a program at school called "Girls on the Run". The temperature was 30 degrees and windy. Now they want to enter more races. #3 daughter will be participating in the same program at school in the Spring. I want to start training so I can run a race with them. HHHmmmm now that's a thought - maybe I could actually lose weight if I ran.....I need MOTIVATION!!! But then there's that food thing and Starbuck's thing and right now the most delicious of all is the the Chick-fil-a Chocolate Chip Peppermint Milkshake - it's slap yo' momma good!! And, Jim keeps buying them. They are selling them only during the holiday season - so, that craving won't last forever. I know it's time to stop blaming my weight on having 4 kids and having the last 2 so close together...for goodness sake - #4 daughter just turned 7!! I'm out of excuses....There is a First Place group meeting at church - does anyone know someone who's had success with the program? I know it can't hurt.
Well - it's late and I have 18 little 1st graders that will expect me to be perky and alert tomorrow. Good Night!! :-)
